A conundrum of modern societies is the declining level of health in the general population, such as corpulence, with conflicting views on how to tackle this worrying trend. One possible remedy is to increase the price of fattening food to encourage a healthier diet.

Admittedly, such practice could to some extent alleviate the tension. If the price of such high-calorie food was raised, the general public who live on a tight budget would be more likely to consume cheaper yet low-fat alternatives, rather than just collapse in front of screen every evening, with fried chicken and cola in hand. Hence, more businesses would be motivated to develop and produce diet food products.
